Shure UK team up with Kings Place launching Mozart [Un]Rapped
Sampling Mozart for the next generation
QUICK FACTS
QUOTES
20 June, London UK, Shure UK have partnered up with Kings Place to launch a fresh new freestyle/ vocal contest open to everybody; from budding performers to those who want to try their hand (and voice!) at something new.
The starting point for the project was Kings Place’s Mozart Unwrapped series: A year long series of over 40 concerts of Mozart’s works taking place during 2011, currently in full swing. Mozart [un]RAPPED has taken samples from a live performance from the Aurora Orchestra playing Mozart and invited skilful and creative producers to take on the challenge of remixing Mozart themselves to create tracks that entrants re-work and add to in order to leave their mark on Mozart.
Tracks include: ‘Mozart in Trenchtown’ by British Caribbean reggae pioneers Black Slate, ‘Mo Wolf’ by the enigmatic Throwing Snow, ‘The Mozart Joint’ produced by Kelakovski & Kosyne and endorsed by multi award-winning Yungun, ‘Salzburg Strudel’ and ‘Wolfgang Break’ by transatlantic Hip Hop duo Herma Puma, ‘Wolfgang’s Cutlery’ from Al Tourettes, who recently contributed music for the Oscar-winning film ‘Black Swan’ and ‘Mozart’s Lament’ from 4-way collaborative ensemble Cymatic. The participating artists will we judging the competition entries and present the winners at the finale on 24th July at Kings Place before inviting them to perform live.
“It is not every day that wannabe vocalists and rappers get the chance to work with samples of possibly the most important musician of all time. We are certainly pleased to be part of this exciting project” Paul Crognale, Marketing Manager,Shure UK
The winner will be invited to Shure UK HQ to spend some time trying out a range of microphones. After testing he or she can then select their own prizes, be it microphones for studio or performance.
[un]RAPPED aims to celebrate musical convergence and culture and not only wants to promote musical experimentation with different styles, but also wants to merge different audiences through alternative methods. The use of mobile and web platforms in the project encourages the highest levels of creativity and accessibility.
Submissions deadline: 20th July 2011
